Tekong Polder Dike

Construction of Polder At Area A and C of Pulau Tekong: Singapore's new land reclamation method

A new method of land reclamation is being adopted at the north-western tip of Pulau Tekong, adding new land the size of two Toa Payoh towns for military training purposes. This empoldering method involves building a dike around the area to be reclaimed, afterwards draining water from it, creating a low-lying tract of land below sea level, called a polder. The polder is buffered from the sea by a dike, and water levels in the polder are controlled by drains and pumps. The dike will be 10km long, up to 15m wide at its crest and stand about 6m above sea level.

We were awarded with numerous subcontract works in this project not limited to

mock up dike

To provide machinery for excavation, loading, transportation, stockpiling and compaction works. Built up approximately 10m mock up dikes for further trials and testing.

temporary bund jetties

To provide temporary bund jetties for marine vessels.

shore protection works and scour protection works

We built a temporary shore protection and scour protection at the main closure to prevent sand erosion from occuring due to strong currents during high and low tides.

sand capping

Using an innovative and cost effective idea, Halex has managed to come up with a highly productive and accurate method in order to reclaim the land from the low level pond filled with marine soft clay and sea water as this is unable to be achieved using conventional construction methods.

sand transportation

We are currently executing the re-handling of the surcharge material, which includes unloading onto the barge, excavation, loading, transportation, stockpiling and leveling works. Approximately 100,000 cubic meters of surcharge material per month has been managed in a 24-hour operation effectively and safely.
